Day To Day Dre

The decision to send Andre Ethier to the 15-day disabled list or not will have to wait until Monday or Tuesday. Team physician Dr. Neal ElAttrache and hand specialist Dr. Steve Shin both examined the broken first knuckle on Ethier's right pinkie.

There is no treatment for a fracture this small, apparently. It simply has to heal on its own. The question now is whether or not Andre can tolerate the pain or not.

A splint was put on the finger today. Ethier could still make a trip to the disabled list.

Triple Crown Watch On Hold

The Dodgers got bad some bad news today. Andre Ethier fractured the knuckle of his right pinkie today during batting practice. He will head back to Los Angeles Sunday to have his hand examined by team doctor Neal ElAttrache and hand specialist Dr. Steve Shin.

Andre Ethier:

"It was a freak thing. I was in the cage hitting and I've done this a few times, where my finger gets pinned under the knob of the bat and it gets sprained or bruised. This time it gave way. I kept swinging three or four times and thought it was sprained. I went to the cage and it started throbbing a little bit.

I went out to play catch and it blew up a little more. I tried to hold a bat and it didn't feel right and I told Donnie [Mattingly, hitting coach]. It's right at the leverage point of my swing. I guess my finger kind of slipped when I threw the knob and it got contorted.

They told me fracture, and I didn't even look at the X-rays. I didn't want to see it. It could be a couple of days. It could be longer. We'll see what they say tomorrow."

Dre is currently leading the National League in all three Triple Crown categories, average (.392), home runs (11) and RBIs (38).

Hopefully this isn't anything major. The Dogers really need him. Tuesday night is Andre Ethier bobblehead night at Dodger Studium. I'd love to see him there in uniform and playing. The last time a Dodger came back to play from a hand injury on his bobblehead night, we saw this.

Missed It By That Much

With the Dodgers down 3-2 in seventh inning, Matt Kemp hit a two-run homerun off of Padres pitcher Luke Gregerson to give LA a 4-3 lead. Centerfielder Tony Gwynn made an attempt at catching it over the wall, but it went through his glove.

It was nice to see Matt hit that homerun tonight. It was Kemp's eighth home run on the season, but only his first since April 21. He hit it to the deepest part of Petco Park, which was very impressive. Hopefully this gets Matty going.

Andre Ethier went 2 for 3 tonight to bring his batting average up to .392. He also knocked in another run to give him 38 rbi on the season.

Forever Collectibles Retro Bobblehead

Here's another cool item from the MLB.com Shop. A Retro Bobblehead from Forever Collectibles. It's a 7" bobble that has a retro look team uniform. Only 18 team got this bobblehead. These bobbleheads look nice, although I'm a little disappointed they didn't make a Brooklyn Dodgers version.

The home from the movie "Field of Dreams" is up for sale. The 193-acre farm where Kevin Costner and James Earl Jones filmed 1989's "Field Of Dreams" has been listed for sale by its owners after over a century of family ownership. The asking price for the whole lot is $5.4 million.

Fox Sports may make some changes to it's baseball programming. Fox's regular-season baseball next year might largely migrate to prime time — and include more games in each game TV window. Fox is testing prime time with regionalized coverage of four games May 22, led by New York Yankees-New York Mets, and three on June 26, including Yankees-Los Angeles Dodgers. Depending on those ratings, Fox could have much more MLB prime-time action next season.

Commissioner Bud Selig today defended baseball’s record on minority hiring and said next year's All-Star Game will remain in Phoenix, Arizona despite the state's new immigration law.

The bobblehead craze is about a decade old, and it's bigger than ever. Jim Caple at ESPN.com's Page 2 visits Bensussen Deutsch & Associates Inc. in Woodinville, Washington, the company that make many bobbleheads for sporting events around the country. The company says it is scheduled to deliver more than 1 million dolls combined for at least 44 promotional dates this season.

I know it's still early in the season, but it's still fun to keep an eye on Andre Ethier's stats. Dre went 1 for 4 tonight with another homerun. That brings his total to a league leading 11. He added two more runs batted in, giving him 37. He's also batting .385 on the season.
