Bobblehead of the Day: Mike Scioscia

I grew up in 8o's, so the Dodger teams and players of that decade are some of my all time favorites. One of those players is Mike Scioscia. It pains me to see him now in Angel red and not in Dodger blue. It was extra painful when he led the 2002 Anaheim Angels to a World Championship.

With the Freeway Series starting tonight, I thought we'd take a look at Scioscia's bobblehead. As I've said in the past, the honor of a bobblehead should go to someone who has done something good for an organization. Mike Scioscia was a key player in the 1981 and 1988 World Championship teams. Maybe one day the Dodgers will honor him with an SGA bobblehead.

On April 17, 2008, the Anaheim Angels gave away Mike Scioscia bobbleheads to all fans in attendance. Presented by Toshiba, this bobblehead was made by ProSport Image. The Angels played the Kansas City Royals that night, and won 5-3.

Okay, let's take a look at Mr. Scioscia:









What can I say about this bobble? It's nothing special. Does it look like Scioscia? A little. The detail on the jacket and hat are nice. It would look a lot better though if he was wearing blue.

Dodgers News And Notes

The Dodgers completed the home sweep of the Cardinals tonight. The last time that happened was in the magical 1988 season.

Dodgers tap into 'V energy'. Frank and Jamie McCourt quietly hired a Russian emigre who calls himself a scientist and healer to 'think blue' and channel his thoughts toward the team's success as he watched them play on TV. This is a weird story.

Carlos Monasterios is getting another start. Joe Torre said he would give rookie Carlos Monasterios one more start Sunday, against the Anaheim Angels, before possibly returning the job to Opening Day starter Vicente Padilla.

Day 3 of the MLB draft was today. Memories of Kevin Malone has details on all the Dodgers picks.

Speaking of Dodger draft picks, one of those picks was Andre Ethier's younger brother Devon. The 20-year old was selected in the 32nd round out of Gateway Community College in Phoenix. I'm sure this will make a few female Dodgers fans happy.

2010 Bobblehead Giveaway #2: Jonathan Broxton

Tonight was the second bobblehead giveaway of the year at Dodger Stadium. Jonathan Broxton bobbleheads were given away to the first 50,000 fans in attendance. Presented by Kaiser Permanente, this bobblehead was made by P Squared Promos.

We had a pitcher's dual in tonight's game. Chris Carpenter and Hiroki Kuroda went toe to toe tonight, with both pitching seven scoreless innings. A Manny Ramirez RBI double in the 8th inning put the Dodgers up 1-0. And that was all they needed, as Mr. Bobblehead, Jonathan Broxton, came into the game in the 9th inning to close it out. It was nice to see Brox start off the inning by striking out Albert Pujols. Broxton earned his 15th save in 17 chances, helping the Dodgers win game number 35. The win tonight moved the Dodgers into first place in the NL West and it also gives them the best record in the National League.

We had a good game tonight at Dodger Stadium, but I think most of the fans were concentrating on the Laker/Celtics game. I was one of those people with my eyes on the cell phone. Of course, the Lakers won 91-84.

All is good in Dodgertown and Lakerland.

Another Bobblehead For The Collection

Okay, so another bobblehead night has arrived. Andre Ethier was the first bobblehead of the year. Tonight will be Jonathan Broxton.

Tonight is another bobblehead giveaway night at Dodger Stadium. The first 50,000 fans in attendance will receive a Jonathan Broxton bobblehead.

Yesterday was the 2010 First-Year Player MLB Draft. The Dodger selected McKinney (Texas) High School right-handed pitcher Zach Lee with their first-round pick (28th overall).

Charlie Haeger is making another trip to the disabled list.

Dodgers invite families to the 7th annual Father's Day Catch on June 20th.

Bobblehead of the Day: Garret Anderson 2005

I was debating whether to post this bobblehead or not. Since Garret Anderson actually did something meaningful for the Dodgers this last week with his walk-off hit, it's probably gonna be my only opportunity to bring him up.

Yes, GA is in an Anaheim Angels uniform. I hope I never see a Garret Anderson Dodger bobblehead. The honor of a bobblehead should go to someone who has done some good for a team. GA had some great years in Anaheim. He is stinking it up as a Dodger.

Anyway, this bobblehead was given away at Angel Stadium Tuesday, June 14th, 2005, to the first 20,000 fans in attendance. Presented by Toshiba, this bobblehead was made by BD&A Promotions.

This actually looks like GA. The bobblehead is pretty basic though, bat over the shoulder, standing at home plate. Bleh.

I still hope the Dodgers DFA GA.

Autograph Day

Casey Blake was signing autographs in Pasadena today. John Ely was signing in Culver City. And Jonathan Broxton in Pomona. Jacksonville Jaguars Running Back Maurice Jones Drew was also signing in El Segundo. My goal was to get to at least two of these events. I decided that the trip to Pomona to see Broxton was out of the way. So, my plan was to go to Pasadena first, then Culver City, and if there was time, El Segundo.



I went with my buddy Tom. The event was to start at 12:00. We got to Pasadena at 10:30 and there must have been a 500 or 600 people in line already. Luckily, we ran into our buddys Albert and Chris who were at the front of the line. Albert was wearing an "In Beard We Trust" t-shirt from thelfp.com. I've been meaning to order one of those shirts. I'll get around to it soon. Anyways, there were others walking around with the same shirts.We saw Dodger photographer Jon Soo Hoo there. People were very excited to meet "The Beard".




Wrist bands were handed out at around 11:30. Security told us that Casey didn't want any pictures taken, and that he would only sign one item. That was kind of a bummer. But, I understand why, there must have been 2,000 people there by 12:00. And that's when they started letting people in. Things moved pretty fast from there. The Verizon employees entertained us in line with games and prizes.

It was very hot outside, so once we got indoors, it was very relieving. They rushed us through. I got Casey to sign my bobblehead(what else would I have him sign?). Albert and Tom got baseballs signed. Chris had him sign a picture. Albert got him to sign the baseball "Casey The Beard Blake".



We all rushed out of there. It was 12:30. Tom and I thought we'd try to get to Culver City to meet Ely before 1:00, when the event was supposed to end. A half an hour to get to Culver City from Pasadena? No problem, right? WRONG. It took 40 minutes just to get to the National exit on the 10 freeway. So, we missed that opportunity. Let's try going to El Segundo for MJD. It took another 30 minutes from there. We got to Dick's Sporting Goods at 12:40, twenty minutes before the event ended. We stood in line for those twenty minutes. There were about 100 people in front of us. MJD stopped signing at 2:00 on the dot. Everyone standing in line was handed a picture of the Jaguars running back and sent on their way. That was a waste of time.

In the end, we went 1 for 3 in autograph attempts. In baseball, that would be a good day. For us, it was terrible. Plus, I have a sunburn.
