Who's Going To Get A Clayton Keshaw Bobblehead?

It's finally here! The first bobblehead night of the year. Today the Dodgers will be giving away Clayton Kershaw bobbleheads. Presented by Bank of America, this is the first of six bobblehead nights on the Dodgers promotional schedule.

I can't wait to get my hands on this one.

First Look: Andre Ethier Throwback Bobblehead

Today, the Dodgers released an image of the Andre Ethier bobblehead they're giving away on Thursday, July, 7. Presented by San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino, this bobblehead will be given away to the first 50,000 fans in attendance.

The bobblehead has Andre wearing a throwback Brooklyn Dodgers uniform, the same uniform the Dodgers are wearing  for six day games this year. If you remember, I mentioned he'd be wearing the Brooklyn uni about three weeks ago.

Bobblehead Of The Day: Kirk Gibson

Since Kirk Gibson and the Arizona Diamondbacks were in town this weekend, I think it's the right time to look at Gibby's Dodger bobblehead. It's nice to remember Gibson in Dodger blue and his famous homerun in Game 1 of the1988 World Series. We've all seen it a million times. It's the most famous homer in Dodger history, maybe even in baseball history. Gibby was also named National League MVP that year.

Thirteen years later, the Dodgers would honor Mr. Gibson with a bobblehead. On Saturday, June 9, 2001, the Dodgers gave away Kirk Gibson bobbleheads to the first 50,000 fans in attendance. Made by BD&A Promotions, this was the second of three bobbleheads given away that year. The first was Tommy Lasorda(April 4) the last was Fernando Valenzuela(July 29).

The Dodgers played the Anaheim Angels that night, and  won 2-1. Chan Ho Park started for the Dodgers, Ramon Ortiz for the Angels. Dodger Closer Jeff Shaw got the win.

OK, Let's take a look at Gibby:

So, this isn't the most creative bobblehead ever made. It really isn't anything special to look at, in fact it's as plain as can be (although I do love the mustache!). But it's my favorite bobblehead of all the Dodger Stadium Givaways. Just looking at Kirk Gibson brings me back to when I was 10 years old, watching him hit the homerun. This bobblehead reminds me of the last time the Dodgers won it all, and those are some of my favorite childhood memories.

Player Appearance: Bill Russell

Former Dodgers Shortstop Bill Russell made an appearance today at the new Sports Authority in Sherman Oaks. He was scheduled to sign autographs from 12:00 to 1:00. I got there at 9:30, and there were about ten people already in line.

The staff at Sports Authority were very helpful. They passed out plenty of promotional items while we waited for Mr. Russell, including folding chairs with carrying cases, which made the wait much more comfortable.

12 o'clock finally rolled around and Mr. Russell showed up on time. The line moved very quickly. I noticed people were getting multiple items signed, so I figured I'd give it a try too. I decided to go with two pictures. Both pics had the record setting infield of Russell, Steve Garvey, Davey Lopes and Ron Cey. I already have individual autographs of all four players and decided it's time to get the group together. I've already reserved Steve Garvey's autograph at an appearance next week, so I know I'm half way there.

Mr. Russell was very nice, asking me where I wanted the autograph and even taking a picture with me. I wanted to thank Bill Russell and Sports Authority in Sherman Oaks for everything today. It was good seeing Alejandro and Mike and chatting with everyone else in line.

Player Appearance: Rod Barajas

Dodger catcher Rod Barajas made an appearance at the Metro PCS store in Panorama City today. He was scheduled to sign from 12:00 to 1:00. My original plan was to head over to the signing on my lunch break since Panorama City is only about ten minutes from my office, but I woke up feeling like crap today and called out. So, after thinking about it all morning, I decided to get out of bed and head over to the event.

I got there at 9:30, there were about 50 people in line. I figured I might be able to get a couple of signatures. While waiting in line, I started talking to the guy behind me. He turned out to be Spiegel from Nomo's Sushi Platter. It's nice to have someone talk to while waiting, it really makes time fly by.

Barajas appeared on time, and the line moved very quickly. When I got to Barajas, I had him sign a 2010 Topps Mets card. I wasn't paying attention, and forgot to give him my silver paint pen, so he signed it in black sharpie, and it smudged. He was very nice and signed my hat too.

When I got out of the Metro PCS store, I noticed the line wasn't very long, so I got back in it. Someone was selling baseballs, so I bought one.  Barajas signed the ball and a postcard for me the second time around.

When I left at 12:40, there was no one left in line. Thanks to Rod Barajas for all the autographs.Thanks to Metro PCS for the event. And thanks to Vin Scully Is My Homeboy for the event information.  It was also nice meeting Mike from Nomo's Sushi Platter in person. I saw about 12 other people I know today, it was nice seeing everybody.

Who Wants To Win A Clayton Kershaw Bobblehead?

Alright, we're now one week away from the first Dodger bobblehead giveaway of the year, Clayton Kershaw. In honor of that first bobblehead night, I'll be holding another contest on May 18, the day after the Dodgers give them away. Once again, the contest is sponsored by Bobbles Galore, the world's largest SGA bobblehead reseller.

So how do you win the Kershaw bobblehead? The contest rules will be the same as last time. You'll need to do a couple of things:

(1)You must be a follower of this blog. What does that mean? Your name must be in my list of 'Followers' in the blog sidebar. If you're already a follower, you can win. If you're not a follower, click on the 'FOLLOW' button in the sidebar.

(2)Answer the trivia question correctly. Wednesday evening, I'm gonna ask a trivia question. The question will be asked once the Dodgers/Giants game ends. Before the last contest, I gave a hint to to the question. This time there will be no hint, so you'll need some Dodger knowledge to win the bobblehead. The first person to answer the question correctly will win Kershaw. You will answer the question in the comments section of the post.
