John Ely To Start Wednesday?

The Dodgers, in need of a starting pitcher Wednesday to replace Vicente Padilla, may use John Ely. Although there has been no confirmation yet, Ely's name was taken off the list of probable pitchers for AAA Albuquerque and showed up in the Dodgers clubhouse Tuesday.

If he does start tomorrow, it will be Ely's major-league debut. Ely has appeared in three games for the Albuquerque Isotopes and is 2-1 with an era of 3.00.

Ely along with Jon Link came in a trade that sent Juan Pierre to the Chicago White Sox. Link is currently up with the Dodgers as well, working out of the bullpen.

Some other names that have been brought up to start have been Josh Towers(AAA Albuquerque) Jesus Castillo (1.56 ERA in three starts at AA Chattanooga), Scott Elbert and Josh Lindblom.

I think this is the best option for now. Ely's got some good stuff. Let's see what he can do at the major-league level.
