Bobblehead News

This past Friday was the 5th annual Stitch N' Pitch Night at Dodger Stadium. Stitch N' Pitch brings together two traditions, baseball and the needle arts. For $19, fans could knit, crochet, embroider, cross-stitch and needlepoint with their fellow fans. They also received a Dodgers Stitch N' Pitch Bobblehead. Plus, $1 of every ticket sold was donated to the Needle Arts Mentoring Program (NAMP).

Last night, former Dodger Kenny Lofton was inducted into the Cleveland Indians Hall of Fame. Lofton, who played in three different stints with the Indians, was also honored with a bobblehead. This is a great looking bobble. It depicts Lofton making a catch over the wall, robbing the Oriole's B.J. Surhoff on Aug. 4, 1996. Hat tip to Tribecards.net for this one. This bobblehead looks a lot like the Matt Kemp bobblehead that will be given away by the Dodgers on August 17.

Speaking of the Kemp bobblehead, Roberto at Vin Scully Is My Homeboy got his hands on the bobble before anyone else. He was kind enough to show us all the details of what may be the best Dodger bobblehead ever.

Any Ike Davis fans out there?  On Monday, August 2, the Brooklyn Cyclones, Single A affiliate of the New York Mets, honored current Mets first baseman, and 2008 Cyclone, Ike Davis with a bobblehead.
This isn't your ordinary bobblehead though. It depicts Davis, who's been known to throw his body around to make a play, flipped over the railing making a catch. It's a strange looking bobble, but it is unique. I like any nodder that is out of the ordinary. Here's an interesting fact: Ike's dad, Ron, played for the Dodgers in 1987.

And finally, I want to say farewell to Garret Anderson, who was designated for assignment today by the Dodgers. GA was having a horrible season in Dodger blue. Batting just .181, fans had been screaming for his release since the season started. I'm surprised it took this long to let him go. Left-handed-hitting outfielder Jay Gibbons was called up from AAA Albuquerque to replace Anderson. You can see my post on GA's Anaheim Angel's bobblehead here.

  1. I got my Ike Davis Bobblehead. This one is sweet! My Baby Bums are having a hell of a season. It's been a lot of fun in Brooklyn this year. But that BobbleHead is too much! Love it. It's now officially my favorite one. Brooklyn Cyclones always give out great BobbleHeads. The Mets just give us head aches.

  3. Only have the one. If my son would have come with me instead of chasing down some hood rat for some/some....we could have had a deal! Blame him.
