Phillies Draft Ryan Garvey

The Philadelphia Phillies selected Ryan Garvey, son of Dodger great Steve Garvey, in the 15th round of the MLB first-year player draft. Garvey, who has signed a scholarship with USC, batted .372 with nine home runs and 44 RBIs this season. He was the 481st overall pick in the draft.

From Phillies.com:
If any of their draft picks can reference a template to the Majors, it's their 15th-round pick, Ryan Garvey, the son of "Mr. Dodger" Steve Garvey, selected in the 15th round.

Steve Garvey played in a National League-record 1,207 consecutive games -- the second-longest streak next to Lou Gehrig at the time, and won an MVP in 1974.

"He wasn't taken just because he's Steve Garvey's son," said Phillies director of scouting Marti Wolever . "I saw him play late in the year and he's a pretty good offensive player. We think he has a chance to hit."
Congratulations to Ryan and the entire Garvey family.

  1. I was wondering where he would end up. I'm sure Garvey must be proud of his son and looking forward to experiencing the game in another aspect like that of a father.

  3. Claudia - would've been cool if the Dodgers drafted him.

Mike - everything's good. How you been? Now his son is on the Phils, so you can continue to hate.
