Dodgers Release 2013 Promotional Schedule

The Dodgers released their 2013 promotional schedule yesterday. We've got all the usual suspects on the list, t-shirts, fleece blankets, caps and other things that will end up in the back of our closets. What most of us really care about are the bobbleheads. Last season the team gave away TEN bobbles and guess what? We get TEN more in 2013! Here's the official release from the Dodgers:
The Los Angeles Dodgers announced their 2013 promotional schedule today. The list of giveaways will offer fans unique collectibles and fan favorite items. The Dodgers will give away 10 bobbleheads, including legendary Dodger Hall of Famers Sandy Koufax, Vin Scully and Jaime Jarrín, Dodger owner Earvin “Magic” Johnson, current Dodger stars Adrian Gonzalez, Matt Kemp and Hanley Ramirez and Dodger broadcaster Rick Monday. Johnson will also be featured in a second giveaway item, a one-of-a-kind T-shirt. Hello Kitty returns for 2013 with a fleece blanket and mini bobblehead on the promotional calendar. In addition, there will also be seven different kids' giveaway items.

I must admit, I'm looking forward to getting my Hanley Ramirez "I See You" bobble, Adrian Gonzalez bobble, and my Magic bobble, but do we really need another Sandy Koufax and Vin Scully? I thought getting a Koufax and Scully bobblehead was going to be a special promo for the 50th anniversary, and now we get them in back-to-back years? I don't like that.

I am intrigued by the Rick Monday "Flag Saving" bobble. I think it's a great idea and a moment that needs to be honored.

The Jaime Jarrin bobblehead is another one I'm looking forward to getting my hands on, but this one really feels like an apology bobblehead, one that screams "I'm sorry you didn't get one in 2012!" We all knew Jaime deserved a bobblehead, it just should have been given away last year. You know what they say though, better late than never.

I'm not sure who the mystery bobbleheads are going to be, but I wouldn't be shocked to see another Fernando Valenzuela or Tommy Lasorda. I know they're giving away a Jackie Robinson statue, but they should also give him a bobblehead. Any thoughts on this? Who do you think should get the other bobbleheads?

I want to get back to the number of bobblehead being given away in 2013. I know I'm in the minority, but I think ten is too many. I understand it's a way to get people into the stadium and a way to generate money, and I've always said that if they are making money, they need to spend it on players. But when the team would give three or four bobbles away every year, those nights were special. Now it's become an ordinary giveaway, something we get every other week. As much as I love getting a new bobblehead for the collection, I want to see the number reduced in 2014.

  1. Billingsley and AJ Ellis, Jansen next year. Roberto said he's heard the Robinson family won't allow a bobblehead to be created.

    1. I heard that too, but they are allowing the statue, so you never know.

I think the Vinny was special, by making another it sort of downgrades the one from last year. The sandy was boring last year so maybe he'll be in action this time. I'm happy for the jarrin bobblehead. I'm excited for the Rick Monday but I'm sorta confused by it. It is titled "announcer Rick he saved the flag Monday" so will it be him as an announcer, maybe holding up the flag? Or will it be him actually saving the flag as a cub? I'm ready for some current players too. For the two unannounced ones my vote would be BILLS already and maybe Crawford depending on how he starts out as a dodger. Ten bobbled is alot, I'm also in that minority that would have been fine with 4-6 bobbles but I'm still very excited for 2013 because we got a great team coming together. It will be fun!

    1. Bills is one of those guys I'm on the fence about. I wish he was more consistent, then I would say he deserves one for sure, but he's never been consistently good. Crawford will probably be one of the unknown. I'm also thinking Nancy Bea has an outside chance.

  3. I agree about the number of Bobbles 10 is way to many. This past season it became kind of not so special to get a bobble. Like you said when they gave away fewer it was more special. Being at Vin Scully bobblehead night was just great especially all the pre-game ceremonies. With how reserved Scully and Koufax are and how long it took them to say yes to a bobblehead I am really surprised they agreed to a 2nd bobble and I agree having a 2nd Scully and Koufax bobblehad makes the first ones not so special it should have been a one time thing and that was it.

This past season I bought the 10 game bobblehead plan and when the season was over I vowed never to go to so many games again its to much hassle leaving work early leaving for the stadium early etc. and just going up there so many times. It did not help they only won two of those games on Bobble nights. But now it is so tempting to buy the 10 game plan again. I don't know what to do. Either get the plan or just go to a few games and buy the rest off of ebay. I guess another way to look at it is you get out of the house and forget about your every day routine twice a month which is a good thing.

  4. You Dodger fans are lucky. You get your Promotional Schedules released early. The Yankees don't release theirs until late. Last year, it was a month before Opening Day started before we knew.

I would love, love, love to be able to take the trip to Dodger Stadium to see the Yankees/Dodgers. It would be my first trip to LA. I hope I can make it happen.

    1. This is the earliest I ever remember them posting the promo list. Last year I think it was around the first of the year then they offered the bobblehead mini plan and I bought that on Leap Day. Seems they are really starting early this time around with trying to get fans interested to buy tickets. Geez they had a open house last weekend for season tickets for next season. Way to early to buy tickets in my oponion.

    2. Bruce - you're right, this is very early.

Mike - you gotta come out to LA!

  5. It seems like a good promo schedule. The Magic bobble and t-shirt should be cool.

If one of the bobbles is up for a fan vote, Luis Cruuuuz may win. I also vote for a Ronald Belisario bobble.

I'm all for a Belisario bobble.

  6. I'm definitely doing the Matt Kemp, Robinson Statue, Scully and Jarrin bobblehead. However, I'll have to see the rest to judge whether I want them. Last year's bobblehead outside of 4 of them were dissappointing. If Koufax's is nice as well, I'll give it a shot.
Last year I did the bobblehead mini plan and ultimately I hated how it was handled and managed. No fault to the current owners, not in the least. I expect things to turn out nice, so I'm on the fence. I may just decide to buy it anyways simply because I really enjoyed the Dodger games more with the current owners now then with McCourt.

    2. Kirk, Picard, or more appropriately Sisko would be nice. I'd also love an enterprise/dodger replica.

  8. P.S. Kershaw deserves another bobble, since he just put another Cy Young worthy season.

How about Aaron harang with the big watergun he uses after a walkoff, or nick punto with someone's shredded jersey. A belisario would look nice between my Joe biemel and kuo. How bout a Cruuuuuuuuuz doing that finger thing after an RBI hit? If dee is an important player this year(I hope so)
He would make for a good head first slide bobble body. I also am very curious on what the Vinny bobble will be. We also could use one more Fernando, maybe him now? Just kidding. Will the Rick Monday be in a cubs uniform, that's what the LA times said?

    1. All good ideas! Love the Cruuz and Dee suggestion.

    2. Dee Gordon is popular but pretty bad, and I've seen some sliding bobble heads, most are underwhelming to put it nicely. A.J. Ellis is excellent, and like someone mentioned above deserves one as well.

Yeah, A.J. Is a solid catcher withe a great OBP and he can even show a little power now an then. Plus I really like catcher bobbleheads. I would only give Dee one if he was the 2011 or better Dee Gordon Because right now we don't even know if he has a spot other than pinch runner. Maybe they can do one of uribe striking out or sitting on the bench.

  10. For anyone complaining about how last year's Dodgers bobbleheads turned out, may I direct you to the much hyped Albert Pujols Angels bobblehead of last season.

    http://www.dodgerbobble.com/2012/04/bobblehead-of-day-albert-pujols.html

Ewwww you can actually see the sticker outlines on that thing. Personally I think the Dodgers bobbleheads have been getting better and better, and last year was the best. 2013 list sounds great already.

    1. The Pujols was god-awful, but at least the Angels didn't shove ten bobbleheads down their fan's throats.

    2. DodgersClippersBruinsFanNovember 6, 2012 at 10:33 AM

To be completely honest when I got the Pujols, I checked it for damage and then never took it out again. I'm waiting to find some more space because my wife says no bobbleheads anywhere but my dodgers room.

    3. Yeah, I didn't hate it at first. However, after the honeymoon of receiving a Pujols bobblehead, I realize it's terrible. Almost as bad as the Pirates and their yearly same pose, but still pretty bad. I can't stand the stupid ad on it, just like every other Angel bobble. Even worse than the Pujols one is the Joe Saunders and Peter Bourjos ones.
