Trade With Plaschke, Thy Sweater Is Argyle

I've had six opportunities to get the autograph of Dodger  pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu. All six times the Korean rookie has either denied me, skipped over me or in the case of Dodgers FanFest I happened to be in the wrong line. So when my boy Greg from Plaschke, Thy Sweater Is Argyle was able to get the Ryu sig at FanFest, I saw an opportunity to get the autograph that had eluded me so many times.

Now, I didn't want to mess around because I knew Greg had waited a long time in the hot Dodger Stadium parking lot before he got Ryu's auto, so I immediately offered to overpay for the sweet spot signature. I gave up quite a bit, but I honestly didn't mind trading so much because it's one less autograph I have to worry about getting this year. You can see everything I sent Greg here.

Besides the Ryu sweet spot auto, Greg was nice enough to include a beautiful 2012 Prime Cuts Matt Kemp/Clayton Kershaw jersey/bat card.

Thanks again to Greg for this great trade. Even though it took a few weeks get done, it was well worth it. I can't wait for the next one!

    2. Kershaw walked into my bagel shop at one point, I was the one who recognized and I got stage fright when I thought of asking for his signature. He did sign everything, so I'm wondering does he play hard to get on the autographs thing? Or is it the popularity?

  5. Hadouken!? I swear I'm missing something because Ryu is Korean.

    1. It's a reference to the Street Fighter character Ryu who would scream Hadouken when he blasted someone.

    2. I'm wondering if this is racist in the sense that people think all Asian cultures are the same, or if he has said this before himself.

    3. Btw, Hadouken and Street Fighter are Japanese, if you didn't know.

    4. It makes sense now because a character who can perform Hadouken is also named Ryu.

    5. Yeah,i knew that. its a reference to the name...not the nationality.

    6. Right on, I hope you know I wasn't calling you racist just confused on the reasoning behind the splice of cultures.

    1. Not everyone can understand nor make the connection across multiple genres and platforms. Baseball and Video Games, and truthfully this isn't common knowledge. I previously looked it up myself and when most websites talk about Hadouken they never mention the character named Ryu performing it. In my experience often times when people do a splice of cultures it is because of racism and the thought that all cultures are the same, this is far from the truth. If you can't understand that then you shouldn't be insulting anyone.

    2. Specifically that all Asian cultures are the same, I study Chinese and Japanese and it's amazing how much people cannot understand the difference nor care for the difference. However, if I asked them if they were Mexican (if they were instead El Savadorian or Puerto Rican) they would flip out and not see the irony. Sad part is, it is much easier to identify Asian cultures differences than Latin cultures differences in culture, languages, and names.

    3. so josh tells u its a street fighter character named ryu and u still wonder if its racist, u are a dumbass. the fact that u assumed race
was the correlation makes it seem like u got race issues

      Delete
    4. He did not mention it at first and edited his comment to include it. If he did say that I would not have brought up the issue, you can tell when I repeat what he said that clearly he did not mention it before I came to the realization. Jumping the gun and calling me a dumbass for your inability to recognize that makes me think you have personal issues to work out.

  7. The Ryu line at Fan Fest was empty NO ONE WAS IN THE RYU LINE. Everyone wanted McGwire and Grienke. I was able to get 12 RYU sweet spots that day. If I knew you wanted one I would have just given you one.

  8. Also not sure if you are hip to sportscollectors.net but I picked up a RYU for 30 bucks two weeks ago. Also got a Shawn Green for 20 and a Karros for 24 w/ inscriptions. Also a good place for you to hook up some trades. Good luck! Hoping for Magic tonight - he's the white whale!
