Player Appearance: Shawn Green
Former Dodger outfielder Shawn Green made an appearance at Barnes & Noble in Glendale this evening. He was there signing his new book, "The Way of Baseball: Finding Stillness at 95 mph". He was scheduled to appear from 6 to 7 pm.
I arrived at Barnes & Noble at 5:45, and there were about 100 people in line. I knew I had to buy a book to get the autograph. I was actually there to buy two, one for me and the other for my sister. Once I made the purchase I got into the line, and that's when Shawn arrived, right at 6:00.
We were told we could get one piece of memorabilia signed for every book we purchased. I bought two books, so I got my Shawn Green bobblehead and one card ready for signing. The line moved slowly, but that's because he was posing for pictures and chit-chatting with everyone. The Barnes & Noble staff were actually being very nice and taking pics for the fans.
Once I got to the front of the line, he shook my hand, took a picture with me and signed everything I put in front of him. We also talked a bit about his book tour and living in New York. Greenie was very friendly and I could have talked to him for hours. I really did have a million things to ask him.
Thanks to Shawn Green, Barnes & Noble, and Vin Scully Is My Homeboy for the appearance info. It was also nice meeting photog extraordinaire, Ben from The sky is Big In Pasadena.

Awesome! It is good to hear that Green is a cool dude. Are you going to start reading his book?ReplyDelete
Good to finally meet you (and Shawn). My post about the event will be up tomorrow.ReplyDelete
Mike - He was very nice, and yes, I will read his book.ReplyDelete
Thanks for sharing. I met him a number of years ago I think when he first signed with the Dodgers. He and Eric Karros were both at the same signing at a ATT Wirelss store in Downey. Before going I stopped at a local baseball card shop an I bought 1 8 x 10 of Eric and one for Shawn. They were both seated at the same table and when it was my turn I put each picture down in front of them and they signed. I tried to thank them but they both were talking to each other and I never got a response. But the autogprphs came out great. The pictures are really nice color shots of them mid-swing. Eric Karros was one of my favorite Dodgers and it was nice to get Shawn Green's as well that day. A rare dual signing which does not happen very often. I almost went to Barnes and Noble today but time got away from me and it was a little late. Anywho I enjoyed reading that Joshua. At least he spoke to you. He was just chatting away with Eric when i met him. I sure would not mind if they made a EK Bobblhead.ReplyDelete
Ben - Nice to meet you too! Can't wait to read that post.ReplyDelete
Bruce - I would love to see those autographs. Post them on Facebook so I can see.ReplyDelete
You're right, I would love a Karros bobblehead.

I couldnt attend but my sister did. She got two books and a baseball signed plus a pic. She said he was an awesome guy. Plus she was surrounded by all his family and friends!ReplyDelete
