Brooklyn Dodgers Statue Of Liberty

Happy 4th of July to everyone! Today is our nation's 235th birthday, the anniversary of our independence. It's a day to celebrate our freedom.

One of our nations most recognizable symbols of freedom is the Statue of Liberty. Today I'm gonna show one of my favorite pieces in my Dodgers collection, the 2008 All-Star Brooklyn Dodgers Statue of Liberty.

In 2008, the All-Star game was held in New York at Yankee Stadium, and the city went with the Statue of Liberty theme. Forty-two major league decorated Statue of Liberty replicas were spread throughout NYC. All 30 MLB teams were represented, the American League, the National League, four All-Star statues commemorating the final season of Yankee Stadium and Shea Stadium, an additional version for the host Yankees plus they made Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants statues as well. The statues stood 8 1/2 feet tall and were commissioned in conjunction with Forever Collectibles.

Of course, Forever designed a smaller, 9-inch versions. My sister, who lived in New York at the time, picked up a Brooklyn statue for me. If I can ever find an LA version, I'm buying it. Here's Lady Liberty:

As you can see, on the torch, there's a Brooklyn-style "B", the sash lists all the years the Brooklyn Dodgers won the National League pennant, there's 1955 World Champion logo at the foot, a Brooklyn Bridge and Ebbets Field stamp  on the back, and the tablet has a Dodgers pennant on it. The stand also has Brooklyn written across it.

This is one of the better All-Star themes since Chicago started doing it with bobbleheads in 2003. Some of the forgettable theme's were 2004's Boots in Houston and the cacti statues in Phoenix this year.
If the Los Angeles Dodgers hosted the All-Star game, what theme would the team go with?

  1. USA! USA! USA! The Dodger theme should be palm trees. Palm trees are all over LA and even in Dodger Stadium.
