Player Appearance: Clayton Kershaw
2011 National League Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw and his wife Ellen made an appearance today at the Ralphs market in Porter Ranch. It was one of many stops on their tour promoting the book "Arise" which they co-wrote. Clayton and Ellen were scheduled to meet fans and sign the book from 1-3 pm. They were there to sign the book only. No outside memorabilia was allowed.
I arrived at Ralphs at 10:00 am and I purchased a couple of books. With the Ralphs Reward card the book came to $10.79 plus tax, with 5% of the proceeds going to Kersh's charity, Kershaw's Challenge. After getting in line, the event promoters handed everyone a list of guidelines which basically said we couldn't pose for pictures or get outside memorabilia signed.
At around 12:45, Clayton and Ellen arrived. I was so excited when they got there. They began signing right away and they were even posing for pictures! Both Clayton and Ellen are very nice and down-to-earth, chatting with everyone.
I'd say there were about 100 people in line and once they all got their books signed, a group of us thought we'd take a chance at getting some other items signed, but we were rejected by Clayton himself. Fail! I guess it never hurts to try, right?
Anyway, Thanks to Clayton and Ellen and thanks to Ralphs Market for holding this event. Also, thanks to Roberto at Vin Scully Is My Homeboy for all the information, it was nice seeing you and everyone else today.

I had an inscription failure, but otherwise it was good times.
ReplyDeleteGood times! Love Kersh.
ReplyDeleteDude, it was sick! If only all events could be run this smoothly.
ReplyDeleteYeah it was! It was the complete opposite of the Living Spaces event.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing. Sounds like not many showed up and it sounds like it went much better than living spaces. Kind of surprised not many showed up.
ReplyDeleteThe one in Carson at the church went well. They spoke for about 20 minutes. After they finished speaking the service still went on for about 10 minutes. When they finished speaking I went and got in line for the signing. I ended up being about 20th inline. Glad I did get in Line early you should have seen the line after the service was over. Must have been 600 or more inline. Both Ellen and Clayton could not have been nicer. Very down to earth. I asked him to add 2011 CY Young to the sig and he did but he left you "Young" :-/. I shook his hand to thank him and he has an iron grip of a hand shake.
Nice to finally go to a signing near home. All in all a very enjoyable evening.
Bruce - I'm glad you got the auto. It was much better than Living Spaces, that's for sure. Good move getting in line early too!
