Only Three Dates Left For A Coca-Cola Bobblehead Value Pack

There are just three more chances to take advantage of the Coca-Cola Bobblehead Value Packs the Dodgers are offering on select Wednesdays and Sundays in September. These value packs include four tickets, four Dodger Dogs, four Coca-Colas and four Don Mattingly bobbleheads.  Packages start at $20 per ticket and are available for 4 to 29 tickets.


This is the same promotion the Dodgers started running in August, although they were giving away Clayton Kershaw bobbleheads at the time. If anyone missed out on the Don Mattingly bobblehead giveaway in June, this is a good opportunity to pick one up before the season ends. I know there are quite a few Dodger fans that didn't make it to the stadium for a Mattingly bobblehead on June 1. That was the emptiest I had ever seen Dodger Stadium on a bobblehead night. The three dates remaining for the Coca-Cola Bobblehead Value Pack are Wednesday, September 14,  Sunday, September 18, and Wednesday, September 21. Like I said before, I don't want to support Frank McCourt in any way, but this seems like a very good deal, especially if you're missing this bobblehead in your collection.

Never Forget

It's hard to believe it's been ten years since our country was attacked. I think we all remember where we were and what we were doing when it happened. My younger sister was living in New York City at the time attending NYU, just minutes from Ground Zero. After the attacks, the cell phone network in NYC was overloaded with people calling, so we couldn't get a hold of her. It was a very stressful time for my family not knowing where she was. When we finally got in touch with her, it was a huge relief. 

As I watch footage of the events that took place ten years ago, I still get goosebumps. I still get angry. My heart goes out to all the families that lost love ones that day. I hope everyone has a chance to reflect today and remember those people.

Happy Labor Day - The Making Of A Dodger Bobblehead

Happy Labor Day everyone! Today's the day we celebrate the American worker. That got me thinking about a video the Dodgers posted last year. It shows us what goes into making a bobblehead. It takes a lot of hard work, work we don't always appreciate when we're handed that box at the turnstile. Today I'm gonna share that video. There's no better way to celebrate Labor Day than to show you how and where bobbleheads, and all the best American products are made...China!

Bobblehead Of The Day: Tommy Lasorda (2001)

Dodgerbobble.com has come down to the last Dodger Stadium bobblehead, 2001's Tommy Lasorda. It's funny how this is the last one to get posted, but it was the very first one given away. Of course, the Dodgers will give more bobbleheads away in the years to come, and I'll post those as they are released.

This is the bobblehead that started it all. The one that began Dodger fan's collections. On April 4, 2001, the Dodgers gave away Manager Tommy Lasorda bobbleheads. Made by BD&A Promotions, this bobble was given to every fan in attendance. The game wasn't the sellout we regularly see on bobblehead nights now though. The official attendance of that game was 34,301. The Dodgers lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks that night 7-2.  Darren Dreifort was the starting pitcher for the Dodgers, Curt Schilling for the DBacks. This was the first of three bobbleheads given away in 2001. Kirk Gibson was the second(June 9) and Fernando Valenzuela was the third(July 29).

I like this pudgy, big-headed version of Tommy. It may not look exactly like him, but it's close enough. The features of the SGA's got better once the Dodgers switched manufacturers from BD&A to P2. This is the very first Dodger Stadium  bobblehead given away, so I do have a soft spot in my heart for it.

Dodgers To Give Away "Interlocking Decade Bobbleheads" in 2012?

The Dodgers have sent emails asking their fans to take a survey regarding potential giveaway items for the 2012 season.  You can take that survey here. All the typical survey questions are asked. They want to know all about the person they are surveying.


When they get to the actual promotion portion of the survey, they list a bunch of potential giveaways. Some interesting items on the list include a Clayton Kershaw strikeout counter, Dodger sunglasses and a Tommy Lasorda Gnome(love this one!).

Then we get to the bobblehead portion of the survey. Of course, this is the part that gets me excited. The survey says the Dodgers are considering six different "Interlocking Decade Bobbleheads" throughout the 2012 season. Each bobblehead would be a Dodger legend from a different decade that "interlocked" as if they were puzzle pieces and align together according to decade. The Dodgers would offer the "Interlocking Decade Bobbleheads" as six different giveaways throughout the 2012 season. 


Now, I'm not sure what I think of the whole interlocking part. I've never seen anything like that before, so I give the Dodgers some credit for thinking outside the box. Everyone knows I like a unique bobblehead. 


The survey also asks "which Dodger player or Dodger legend would you like to see as part of the 'Interlocking Bobblehead' series giveaways in 2012?". Of course, like any blue-blooded Dodger fan, the first legend that comes to mind is Vin Scully, but we all know he doesn't want to be a bobblehead, so I move on. I chose a player from each decade starting with the 1950's. Here are my picks: 1950's - Roy Campanella, 1960's -Sandy Koufax, 1970's - Davey Lopes, 1980's - Orel Hershiser, and the 1990's - Mike Piazza. The 50's was tough decade for me because there are so many great players to pick from. I also had a tough time with the 70's. I went with Lopes because Steve Garvey and Ron Cey already got bobbleheads.

I was going to make bobblehead predictions for 2012, but I think this is what the Dodgers are going to go with, so, I may not give those prediction at all. But, I could still do it just to have some fun. We'll see.

$1.2 Billion For The Dodgers? An Offer Has Been Made

Bill Shaikin of LATimes.com gave Dodger fans some news they've wanted to hear for a while. There is an offer on the table for the team, $1.2 billion from Bill Burke and a group of Chinese investors.

The bid is headed by Los Angeles Marathon founder Bill Burke and funded in part by Chinese investors, according to a letter sent to McCourt on Tuesday. The letter was disclosed to The Times by two people familiar with its content but not authorized to discuss it publicly.

The proposed sale price would set a record for a MLB team.

The bid terms proposed by the Burke group call for an all-cash payment to buy the Dodgers, all real estate related to the team and the team's media rights, according to the letter. Attorneys for McCourt have said he could try to keep Dodger Stadium and the surrounding parking lots even if he sold the team.

The bid would expire in 21 days, according to the letter, with the goal of closing a deal within 90 days, subject to the approvals of the bankruptcy court and Major League Baseball.

I'm not gonna get too worked up over this news. Yes, it's exciting to think the Dodgers could have new ownership, but Shaikin is talking about foreign investors other than Burke, "certain state-owned investment institutions of the People's Republic of China, as well as unidentified American investors. All sales must be approved by the MLB owners, and I just can't see this one going through. You never know though, Bud Selig and the owners really want Frank McCourt out. For now, I'll take this story with a grain of a salt.
