Hong-Chih Kuo Bobblehead Night

Tonight was Hong-Chih Kuo bobblehead night at Dodger Stadium. The first 50,000 fans in attendance received a Kuo bobblehead courtesy of the Taiwan Tourism Bureau.

Once again, the stadium was empty. The announced attendance tonight was 39,000+, but there's no way that many people showed up to the game. If I were to guess, I'd say the attendance was closer to 25,000.

The Dodgers played the Cincinnati Reds tonight, and lost 3-2. Both starting pitchers looked good, but in the end, it was a battle of the bullpens, and the Reds relievers came out on top.

Let's take a look at Hong-Chih Kuo:

When the promotional schedule first came out, I was excited to see six bobbleheads on the list. Now I'm starting to think it was overkill. Too many bobbleheads this year. I hope they go back to three or four bobblehead in 2012.

As good as Kuo was last season, it's hard to justify him recieving a bobblehead now. This is also one of the more disappointing bobbbleheads in recent years. There's nothing spectacular about this at all.

I'd like to say, it was very nice to sit and watch the game with Spiegel, from Nomo's Sushi Platter, and his girlfriend Martha.  It was also nice seeing Greg from Plaschke Thy Sweater is Argyle. And last but not least, Alexis, Jackie and Jasmine, we had a great time tonight!

  1. Hey Joshua!! I agree with you about the overkill on too many Bobblehead nights this year. The Kuo Bobble is nothing special. I just wonder if they knew what was coming this season as far as lack of attendance and planned 6 bobblhead nights in hopes of increasing attendance. From the 3 bobblehead nights so far it seems their plan has backfired and even a bobblhead night can't get the fans to come out to a game.

Maybe it is because of what has been going on with the Brian Stow beating or the owneship turmoil or the fact that they are just not playing well but I think the fun of going to a Bobblehad night is starting to wear off. It used to be really nice to get out to the stadium for a night and take home a really nice giveaway but in all my years of going it is so difficult to sit and watch them this season at the stadium. I will only go back this year If I happen to have the night off and also if I can find some inexpensive tickets on line as I did for tonights game.

For those that have season tickets you really deserve an award this season if you have gone to all or most the games. It is so difficult to sit and watch them and I have only been to 4 games. I will still be a Dodger fan forever but this season is very difficult to watch.

  3. It was fun hanging with you guys. The drive out of the stadium took like 3-5 minutes. While it's odd with so few people, I can't complain about the decrease in traffic.

  4. Bruce - Great seeing you last night! And you're right, if the Dodgers thought they were going to have crazy attendance numbers with extra bobbleheads, then that plan has backfired on them.

    Formnat - I agree. It's just doesn't have it.

Greg - Three years ago, it would have taken 15-20 minutes to get out of the stadium. It's very sad.

  5. In all the games I have gone to I think that was the fastest I have ever got out of the parking lot. I stayed until the end lastnight and went back to the car and left via the Sunset gate. Almost no delay in getting out just about drove right out with hardly any waiting. Was able to turn right onto stadium way as well which is usually blocked off. It was quite the opposite when leaveing Manny's Bobbleslam game. At least we got to see Kershaw pitch and do pretty well.

  6. As an O's fan who is always clamoring for more bobbleheads, it's hard to feel bad for you Dodgers fans getting 6 this season. But I guess I can understand that you don't want the bobbles to get watered down.

  7. Good seeing you guys out at the game. I still had fun regardless of the outcome. We aren't in a pennant race so wins/losses aren't as big a deal to me this year. I still enjoy baseball. People not coming to games anymore is a good thing. Frank McCourt doesn't deserve the money of LA fans. But the burrito I bought for 7.75 was pretty good. Hahahaha!

  8. Ryan - Believe me, I was very excited when I saw that promotional list for the first time. But it does seem watered down. Give me three or four good ones.

    Spiegel - $7.75? Ouch.

  9. Bruce, Dodgerfilms goes to every game and records it!! That guy is too hardcore....so anyway i was hoping to find someone to trade for a Kershaw bobble. I will have 1 extra Kuo, Ethier and possibly Duke by the end of this thing.
They planned it without expecting this attendance drop, raised the prices and wanted to milk this B for all it was worth, keep the boycott up. It's too bad i can't convince my party to take the shuttle or get a ride instead of giving those $15 to McCheap.

  10. DodgerKings - Let me see if I know anyone with an extra Kershaw.
