Missed It By That Much

With the Dodgers down 3-2 in seventh inning, Matt Kemp hit a two-run homerun off of Padres pitcher Luke Gregerson to give LA a 4-3 lead. Centerfielder Tony Gwynn made an attempt at catching it over the wall, but it went through his glove.

It was nice to see Matt hit that homerun tonight. It was Kemp's eighth home run on the season, but only his first since April 21. He hit it to the deepest part of Petco Park, which was very impressive. Hopefully this gets Matty going.

  1. I loved Matty's comments after the game:

“Tony Gwynn Jr., he almost caught it,” Kemp said. “I’m glad it slipped out of his glove or whatever it did and ended up being a home run. It was a big hit for us.”

“I was just trying to make sure he didn’t take it out of his glove or show me the ball,” Kemp said. “I probably would have gone crazy. I would have flipped. You all would have seen a side of me you’ve never seen before."

"That's probably the hardest ball I've hit in a little while," Kemp told Prime Ticket after the game. "If he had caught it, I probably would have had some words for him in batting practice tomorrow."

  2. I probably would have been just as upset if Gwynn had caught it. Kemp's been in this funk for too long.
