Blowing It On Bobblehead Night

What a game. The offense came to life against Tim Lincecum. Andre Ethier hit a big first inning homerun. Clayton Kershaw pitched well and left tonight's game with a  5-4 lead. But in the end, the bullpen blew that lead. Broxton's got some issues that need to be worked out. Watching him pitch is maddening. What can be said about George Sherrill? I can't see how the Dodgers can continue to hang on to him. He's lost it.

On his bobblehead night, James Loney went 0 for 3 with a walk. He also helped Jonathan Broxton exit the game early. After making one trip to the mound to talk to Brox, fill-in manager Don Mattingly was called back to the mound by Loney, and that was considered to be a second trip. By rule, a manager can only make one trip to the mound to talk to the pitcher. A second trip means the pitcher must leave the game. And that was when Mattingly brought in Sherrill. I knew what was coming at that point. Sherrill gave up the lead and the Giants won 7-5.

The Dodgers have lost six games in a row  and are now 6 games behind the first place Padres. Oh yeah, and Manny's been placed on the disabled list AGAIN! Things are pretty bad in Dodgertown right now.

Another bobblehead was given away tonight. James Loney's bobblehead was the third of four bobbleheads this year. Presented by Carls Jr, this bobble was made by P Squared Promos and given to the first 50,000 fans in attendance.

Cases of bobbleheads

All gone

I went to the game with my son Kevin tonight. It was our first trip to the Ravine together this year. We had a great time. It would have been better with a Dodger win.

Dodger News And Notes

The Dodgers could be ordered sold by judge presiding over case. As Frank and Jamie McCourt continue to fight over everything from unpaid bills to lawyers fees to property taxes, L.A. Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon says one resolution would be to sell 'the asset which is being fought over.'

I really hope that's what happens. Realistically, the McCourt's will be ordered to sell some of their homes rather than the Dodgers.

Tony Jackson at ESPNLosAngeles.com grades the Dodgers first half of the season. His overall grade of the Dodgers is a B. Tony also grades each position player, the bench players, starting pitching, the bullpen and Joe Torre. Tony also feels the Dodgers are one trade away from winning the NL West. I think the B is a fair grade. The Dodgers could have played much better than they did. Let's see if the Dodgers actually make a move before the deadline.

The Dodgers put George Sherrill on waivers. According to Tony Jackson, Dodger reliever George Sherrill, who has had an atrocious first half of the season, has been put on waivers. In 34 appearances Sherrill has a 7.32 era. It's highly doubtful he'll be picked up, but if he is, the Dodgers will lose him to that team. If he clears waiver, he'll have the option of accepting an outright assignment to the minors, or become a free agent.

I cringe every time Sherrill is brought into a game. It makes me sick to think uncle Ned traded Josh Bell to get this guy.

The Dodgers make all Field and Loge level seats just $5 for kids.  As part of their commitment to providing the best family-friendly experience in Major League Baseball, the Dodgers announced today that starting July 19, kids 14 and under can attend a Dodgers game for just $5 with the purchase of every adult ticket on the Field and Loge levels. Two hours prior to each home game, families can purchase up to two $5 kids tickets per paying adult and sit in some of the best seats on the Field and Loge levels, including options behind home plate.

This special ticket promotion is available for every remaining home game, based on availability, and comes at the peak of summer as the pennant race heats up at Dodger Stadium.

A complete list of ticket options and pricing can be found by visiting dodgers.com/tickets, and full details on the Dodgers' $5 ticket promotion is at dodgers.com/specials.

George Sherrill Blows

Great job Sherrill. Andre Ethier's two run pinch hit single and Matt Kemp's monster homerun were so damn exciting. All that excitement disappeared once George Sherrill came into the game in the 9th inning to relieve Ramon Troncoso. I had a bad feeling when I saw him enter. Sherrill only managed to get one of the five batters he faced out, before blowing the game. Sherrill's ERA is now a beautiful 22.50.
