Bobblehead Of The Day: Ron Cey Musical Bobblehead

It's time for another bobblehead post. These things have been very rare, but with the bobblehead season about to start, they'll come a bit more frequently.

Today's bobble is 2004's Ron Cey Musical Bobblehead. This was a Dodger Stadium Exclusive that was sold at the Top of the Park gift shop along with a Steve Garvey Musical Bobblehead. I believe there were only 500 sold. This bobblehead is 2 inches larger than the normal Dodger Stadium bobblehead and stands at about nine inches. There is a baseball between Cey's feet and when pushed, it plays "Take Me Out To The Ballgame."

Here's the Penguin:

Here's one of my Cey bobbleheads, playing "Take Me Out To The Ballgame". The battery inside is eight years old, that's why it sounds like a dying dog.

If anyone is interested in this Cey bobblehead you can purchase it at Bobbles Galore by clicking here. You can also get the Garvey musical bobblehead by clicking here.

Bobblehead Of The Day: Steve Garvey Musical Bobblehead

Since I've posted all the Dodger Stadium giveaway bobbleheads, I'm going to start posting some of the more obscure and lesser known Dodger bobbleheads. There are many out there, and I don't have them all, but I'll show the ones I have and the ones I know about. I've already shown my Dodger Dog bobblehead and my Bob Hope bobblehead. Today I'm gonna show my Steve Garvey musical bobblehead.

This bobblehead was a Dodger Stadium exclusive and was only sold at the Top of the Park gift shop in 2004. I believe they're were only 500 made. I could be wrong about that, so if someone knows otherwise, please let me know. This bobblehead is 2 inches larger than the normal Dodger Stadium bobblehead and stands at about nine inches. There is a baseball between Garvey's feet and when pushed, it plays "Take Me Out To The Ballgame." There is also a Ron Cey version as well.

Here's Garv:

Although they do look a lot alike in the face, the musical bobblehead is a lot larger the 2006 Steve Garvey stadium giveaway. If anyone has anymore details on this bobblehead, please feel free to comment.

"They're not toys. They're life-like replicas of world class athletes whose heads just happen to bobble."

Bobblehead of the Day: Steve Garvey

After posting the Ron Cey bobblehead last week, I got quite a few e-mails asking me to post the Steve Garvey bobblehead that was given away that same year. So here it is, Steve Garvey.

The final bobblehead given away in 2006 was ten-time All-Star and 1974 NL MVP Steve Garvey. Probably the most popular Dodger of his era, "Mr. Clean" played first base for what may be the greatest group of infielders ever. Garvey, along with Ron Cey at third base, Davey Lopes at second, and Bill Russell at shortstop, spent more than 8 1/2 seasons together.

"Iron Man" Steve Garvey holds the National League record for consecutive games played at 1,207. He also led the league in games played for six seasons (1977-78, 80-82, 85) and earned four Gold Gloves at first base (1974-77). I could go on forever about his accomplishments, instead you can check out his bio here.

On July 28, 2006, the Dodgers gave away Steve Garvey bobbleheads to the first 50,000 fans in attendance. Presented by National Consumer Mortgage, this bobblehead was made by P Squared Promos. This was the third of three bobbleheads given away in 2006. The other two were Ron Cey(June 2) and Fernando Valenzuela(June 23).

The Dodgers played the Washington Nationals that night and won 13-1. Chad Billingsley started for the Dodgers, Tony Armas for the Nats. Bills went 6 innings and got the win for LA.

Garvey is one of my favorite Dodgers of all time, so I couldn't wait to get this one. It now stays in front of all the other bobbleheads in the collection. I have to admit, this one looks very strange. His facial features are very square. It doesn't really look like the Garv. The bat he's holding is the "screw-in" type, which never seems to stay in place, and the stance is a very boring bat-over-the-shoulder. Over-all, this is a mediocre nodder, but it's still one of my favorites.
