Jaime Jarrin Doesn't Get A Bobblehead, But He Does Get A T-Shirt. Oh, And Dodgerbobble Got Some Autographs!

Normally I don't write about any other Dodger Stadium promotional nights besides bobblehead nights, but last Monday I attended Jaime Jarrin T-shirt night, and I wanted to talk about it a bit. The first 30,000 fans in attendance received shirts with Jarrin's famous catch phrase "Se Va, Se Va, Se Va" on the front which means going, going, going and "despidala con un beso!" on the back, which means kiss it goodbye. I'm talking about this promotion because I think the Dodgers screwed up by not giving Jarrin a bobblehead this year. I know this has been talked about and written about numerous times, but I thought I'd mention it again. With ten bobbleheads being given away at Dodger Stadium to commemorate the 50th anniversary, the Spanish voice of the Dodgers didn't get one, which I consider a slap in the face after 54 years of service. Maybe they wanted to make him one and he didn't want it, who knows, but if Vin Scully finally got one, why not Jaime?

Jarrin was honored before the game with a special video from the Dodgers and he also threw out the ceremonial first pitch. But before the ceremony on the field, Jaime met with the fans and signed autographs. I've been lucky enough to meet him a few times, but never got the autographs I really wanted, on the sweet spot of a baseball. That night I finally got it, plus a couple others.

I hope next year the Dodgers get their act together and give Jaime Jarrin that bobblehead he deserves. I think the T-shirt is really cool, but a Hall of Famer deserves better.

The last time I gave Dodger bobblehead news, I mentioned the Hello Kitty mini bobblehead giveaway on July 1.Today  the Dodgers released pics of the bobble and some additional info. From Dodgers.com:

LOS ANGELES – The Dodgers announced today a partnership with global brand Sanrio^® Inc., parent company of Hello Kitty, for the second consecutive year. Due to an overwhelming response to last season’s limited-edition ticket package that included a Hello Kitty Dodgers collectible plush, the club has extended the partnership in 2012. This year’s promotion is a Hello Kitty Mini Bobblehead that will be available to the first 50,000 fans with tickets to the game on Sunday, July 1, 2012 (vs. NYM). 

In addition, Hello Kitty and her friend Keroppi^® will make a special appearance at the Viva Los Dodgers Day festival held in lot 6 two hours prior to game time and Hello Kitty will also throw the ceremonial first pitch.

The Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, Single-A affiliate of the Dodgers, released their promotional schedule this week. There are no bobbleheads on that list, but there is one bobble belly. The Quakes mascot, Tremor, will be honored with a bobble belly on Friday, July 27. There will be a few other Dodger Stadium related giveaways too, but none of the DS greats bobbleheads.


Bill Plaschke of LATimes.com wrote a good article earlier this week about the bobblehead snubbing of Hall of Fame announcer Jaime Jarrin. Jarrin, who has worked in the Dodger organization for 53 years, wasn't part of the Dodger Stadium Greats bobbleheads series celebrating the 50th anniversary of Dodger Stadium. Vin Scully was honored with a bobblehead, but not Jarrin. 


I think Jarrin and  team organist Nancy Bea Hefley should have both received bobbleheads. It's a shame that the Dodgers didn't think of these two individuals who have been a huge part of the stadium's history. Instead of giving Fernando Valenzuela or Tommy Lasorda yet another bobblehead, they could have given one to both Jarrin and Hefley. Maybe next year.

Anyone like the Forever Collectibles bobbleheads? Right now they're buy one get one free at the MLB.com Shop. The deal is for all 30 teams. The Dodgers have three available, Matt Kemp, Andre Ethier and Manny Ramirez. Yes, there are still Manny Ramirez Dodger bobbleheads available.

Back in August, I attended my first minor league baseball game. I went to see the Lancaster JetHawks play the Inland Empire 66ers. The JetHawks gave away bobbleheads of former astronaut Hoot Gibson. Well, that bobblehead was voted minor league baseball's best giveaway in 2010, narrowly beating out the Ike Davis bobblelegs given away by the Brooklyn Cyclones.

Looking at the picture of the Hoot Gibson bobble on MiLB.com, I noticed they used MY bobblehead. Cool. C'mon MiLB, can I get a photo credit please!

Ken Ellinger, a Dalton State political science professor, has a collection of 880 bobbleheads in his 90-square-foot office. Ellinger began collecting primarily sports and political figures about six years ago and has never paid more than $20. Hopefully my collection will look like that one day. Click here to watch video of his collection.

And finally, with the Dodgers announcing that they would be giving away SIX bobbleheads in 2011, everyone is guessing which players, coaches or legends would get one of the six honors.
