Jaime Jarrin Doesn't Get A Bobblehead, But He Does Get A T-Shirt. Oh, And Dodgerbobble Got Some Autographs!

Normally I don't write about any other Dodger Stadium promotional nights besides bobblehead nights, but last Monday I attended Jaime Jarrin T-shirt night, and I wanted to talk about it a bit. The first 30,000 fans in attendance received shirts with Jarrin's famous catch phrase "Se Va, Se Va, Se Va" on the front which means going, going, going and "despidala con un beso!" on the back, which means kiss it goodbye. I'm talking about this promotion because I think the Dodgers screwed up by not giving Jarrin a bobblehead this year. I know this has been talked about and written about numerous times, but I thought I'd mention it again. With ten bobbleheads being given away at Dodger Stadium to commemorate the 50th anniversary, the Spanish voice of the Dodgers didn't get one, which I consider a slap in the face after 54 years of service. Maybe they wanted to make him one and he didn't want it, who knows, but if Vin Scully finally got one, why not Jaime?

Jarrin was honored before the game with a special video from the Dodgers and he also threw out the ceremonial first pitch. But before the ceremony on the field, Jaime met with the fans and signed autographs. I've been lucky enough to meet him a few times, but never got the autographs I really wanted, on the sweet spot of a baseball. That night I finally got it, plus a couple others.

I hope next year the Dodgers get their act together and give Jaime Jarrin that bobblehead he deserves. I think the T-shirt is really cool, but a Hall of Famer deserves better.

Player Appearances: Steve Yeager and Ron Cey

Former Dodgers Ron Cey, Steve Yeager and Manny Mota were scheduled to sign autographs for fans attending the Viva Los Dodgers Celebration at Dodger Stadium today. Mota was supposed to sign from 11:30-12:15, and Yeager and Cey from 11:30-12:30. They were there for the ThinkCure! weekend, and were asking fans to donate $5 for the autograph.

I arrived at 10:30, and was one of the first there. I actually saw Yeager walk up to the event, but decided to wait until he got to the signing table before I asked for an autograph. Once he got his Dodgers jersey on, he started signing right away and took pictures with the first few people. I had him sign a baseball card.

No one really knew where Mota and Cey would be signing, but a line started forming next to Yeager, so I got in it. After waiting 20 minutes, we were told that was where Cey would be signing, but he was going to be late. He did finally arrive at 12:15, and started signing right away. Since he was running late, we were told he would only sign one item and he wouldn't take pictures. I decided to get my Cey/Lopes/Russell/Garvey picture signed, but had a bobblehead ready anyway.

When I got to the front of the line, I noticed Cey was signing in blue Sharpie, and the rest of the signatures on my picture were in black. He didn't have a black Sharpie on him, so while I was fumbling through my bag for a black Sharpie, he picked up my bobblehead and signed it! Then I gave him a black Sharpie and he signed my picture too! I left ten dollars in the donation box and left.

There was no official word as to why, but Manny Mota never showed up.While I was there, I thought I'd get some swag. Time Warner was giving away Fernando Valenzuela blankets! WooHoo!

Yesterday I got the opportunity to meet two former Dodgers, Jim Gott and Steve Yeager. I posted the Gott appearance yesterday, so today I'm gonna talk about the Yeager appearance.

After I met Jim Gott, I looked at my watch and realized I still had time to get to Steve Yeager. His appearance was from 11-12:30. Frank & Sons Collectible Show hosted the event.  When I got there, I was all alone. No lines, no BS. Yeager was sitting with two ladies and the two promoters. I walked straight up to the table and paid my $15. They were very nice people. They asked me what I was getting signed, I told them a baseball card, my 1976 Topps.

I walked over to Mr. Yeager and handed him my card. He signed it, and I put it into a sleeve right away. That's when I realized that this was too easy. I really shouldn't have thought that way, but I drove pretty far to get the autograph. Since there were no other people waiting, I decided to chit chat with Mr. Yeager. He was pretty funny. He joked around with the two women he was with. He was very friendly with my sons as well. I also asked the two promoters for directions back to the Valley. They didn't know how to get back, but Mr. Yeager said he did. He said he lived in the Valley and then he gave me four different options to get home. He was a very nice man.

I think I  had a pretty good day. I met Jim Gott and Steve Yeager and when I got home there was an Adrian Beltre autograph waiting in my mailbox. Three former Dodgers' autographs in one day ain't bad at all.
